Properly prepared calculations of the financial losses arising from personal injury or wrongful death require an economic analysis which reflects the remaining work life expectancy of the injured party, his or her historical and expected future compensation, valuation of the benefits the individual was receiving, and, in some cases, the value of the services the individual provided the household. In personal injury claims, the analysis also frequently requires the reliance on other experts in the area of rehabilitation, life care planning, and medicine. These analyses may also require an understanding of statutory recovery provisions, such as in Jones Act cases or in foreign jurisdictions, which may limit or define the amount that can be recovered.
